One Inch Graph Paper

What Large Grid Paper Is Good For
Big squares do a particular job well. In the early grades they give a child room to write one digit per square, which is the simplest way to keep columns lined up in addition and subtraction without ruling anything by hand. They also suit area and perimeter work, where a square needs to be large enough to count and label, and any activity where children are colouring or cutting whole squares.
Outside of maths, a one inch grid is a convenient scale for room layouts and garden plans — one square to a foot gives you a 7 by 10 foot plan on a single sheet.
Other Grid Sizes
If an inch is too coarse, the panel above will draw any size you ask for. Common choices are quarter inch for general maths work, one centimetre for metric measurement, and half an inch as a middle ground. You can also turn on a heavier line every few squares, which makes a large grid easier to count across without making the squares smaller.
Print at 100% or Actual Size, never "Fit to Page" — scaling the sheet means the squares are no longer an inch, which defeats the purpose of choosing a size.
