STAAR Graph Paper

Printable graph paper in the grid sizes used on the STAAR mathematics tests, for practice at home or in class. The Texas Education Agency publishes its own grid paper for the tests; these are our sheets, not those files, drawn to the same square sizes so that students practising on them are working at the size they will meet on the day.

Which Size Goes With Which Test

We measured the published STAAR grid papers and matched the square size of each. All three are plain square grids — no axes, no numbering, and no heavier lines at any interval.

Pick the one you need from the Start from menu below. The square sizes match exactly; the number of squares differs by one here and there because the official files use slightly uneven margins and ours are even all the way round.

A Note on What These Are

These sheets are made by us for practice. They are not official Texas Education Agency documents, are not endorsed by or affiliated with the agency, and should not be used in place of the materials a school is told to use for testing. If you need the official files, get them from the Texas Education Agency's own website. What we offer is the same square size, freely printable as often as you need it.

The Fourth Option: Quarter Inch With Heavy Inch Lines

The last choice in the menu is quarter inch squares with a heavier line every inch. This is ordinary classroom quad paper and is not a STAAR format — none of the published test papers have heavier lines anywhere. It is here because it is what most teachers actually hand out for day-to-day graphing work, the heavier lines make it far easier to count across a page, and 1/4 inch is the most common grid size in American classrooms.

If you have seen a site offering “STAAR paper” with heavy lines every inch, that is this — useful paper, but not the test format.

Printing

Print at 100% or Actual Size. This matters especially for the centimetre grid: "Fit to Page" shrinks the sheet by about three percent, turning a 1 cm square into roughly 9.7 mm, which undoes the reason for choosing a measured grid in the first place. All sheets are built for US Letter (8.5 x 11 inch) paper.
